Until April 23, 2026, the exhibition “Arrocco” speaks of reflection on the creative process, memory, and artistic identity. Studio Orma, a space dedicated to contemporary art in the Monteverde Nuovo district, confirms itself as one of the places most attentive to processual research, thanks to the installation by Paolo Martellotti and Marco Celentani. Far from any traditional exhibition logic, the exhibition arises from a dialogue: Celentani spent a year in Martellotti’s studio as an assistant, establishing a dialogue of observation and rewriting of the artistic gesture; it is in this way that the image of the project takes shape, a vision in which Martellotti appears swallowed by his works and tools, becoming the matrix of the entire installation.
Two generations that meet
Over the years, Paolo Martellotti has based his research on accumulation, on the transformation of objects, and on the memory of making. His studio, therefore, is configured as a living archive, an organism that continues to expand. Meanwhile, Celentani is part of a younger generation: he develops research that moves between installation and meta-artistic reflection, attentive to the relational dynamics that define the work. In Arrocco, these two paths do not overlap; rather, they create tension, creating a work that is simultaneously homage, sabotage, and reinterpretation.
CASTLING, a chess move and a great wall
The installation presents itself as a large wall that crosses the space: trunks, tools, books, and fragments of the studio have been recomposed into a new monumental structure; it is not a simple assembly, but an environmental portrait created with residues of artistic work. “Arrocco” instead recalls the chess move: protection, defense, and redefinition of space, where in this case the wall not only protects but hides and exposes the absence. It thus becomes an intimate place, in a public scene, where the viewer is forced to confront what is normally invisible: the time of doing, the error, and the repetition.
The finissage of the ARROCCO exhibition
On May 23 at 9 PM, a short film about Paolo Martellotti is scheduled to be screened, shot by Gabriele Colafranceschi. It will be a very intimate look at his person, his relationship with wood, his work, and the myth… for this reason, the title is Persefone.
