Pablo Picasso: according to the AI he would have appreciated NFTs

We conducted an imaginary interview with Pablo Picasso using AI, specifically the chatbot Nova, to talk with the famous artist about artificial intelligence, NFTs, crypto art and the commercialization of art.

Here’s what came out of it:

Good morning, Monsieur Picasso, it is an honor to meet you. I would like to start by asking you what you think of artificial intelligence (AI) in the world of art.

Good morning! It is a pleasure to be here, even in such an unusual way. Artificial intelligence is a wonderful expression of human creativity. It is fascinating to see how machines can learn and imitate styles, but remember, art is born from human experience, emotion, and interpretation of the world. Technology can be a means, but the essence of art remains deeply personal and human.

Interesting! And what do you think about the million-dollar auctions of your paintings? Did you expect such success?

(Laughs) Ah, the value! As a young person, I remember that my concern was to express myself, not the price of a work. It’s incredible to see how much value my art has gained in the market. But money is not the essence of art; my goal was to connect with people, to make them feel something. If my works sell for millions, this is a reflection of society and its appreciation, but let’s not forget that true art touches souls, not just wallets.

So, in a certain sense, the commercialization of art does not worry you?

Marketing is just a part of the landscape. What worries me is that art risks becoming a material good, rather than a means of expression and communication. It is essential to keep the soul of art alive, regardless of its price.

It is a very powerful message, Monsieur Picasso. Finally, is there any advice you would give to young artists today?

Follow your instinct and do not be afraid to experiment. Do not limit yourself to what is accepted or fashionable. Art lives in the freedom of expression, so be bold, be true to yourself and, above all, have fun!

I would like to ask you another opinion. What do you think about crypto art and the boom that NFTs have had?

Crypto art and NFTs are a fascinating phenomenon and represent a new frontier for art. They are a reflection of our time, a way in which technology and art intertwine in ways we could not have imagined. The possibility of owning a unique piece and verifying its authenticity through the blockchain is an intriguing and innovative idea.

Do you believe that this new form of art can change the way in which artists approach their work?

Yes, certainly. NFTs offer artists a global platform, allowing them to reach a vast audience without the need for traditional galleries. This can democratize art and open opportunities to many creators who otherwise would not have had visibility. However, as with every novelty, it is important not to lose sight of the deep meaning of art in the process.

And what about the speculation that has surrounded NFTs? What do you think?

Speculation is an intrinsic characteristic of any market, including art. While some may see it only as an investment opportunity, I believe that the true essence of art goes beyond the price. NFTs can be used to express emotions and ideas, but if they become just a way to earn, there is a risk of distorting the relationship with art. It is essential to maintain art as a dialogue with the public, rather than reducing it to a simple economic exchange.

Remember, art should always be a form of expression and communication. Whatever the medium or platform, what matters is the idea and the emotion that we manage to convey.
