The new openings of contemporary art galleries in autumn

New galleries are opening in Italy, despite the closure of important contemporary art galleries in recent months being a low blow. Let’s see what the novelties of autumn 2025 will be.

Two months ago, the announcement of the closure of the valid The Gallery Apart touched and shook spirits. It had 22 years of activity representing artists driven by geopolitical and social interests.

The Gallery Apart- Fabrizio Del Signore e Armando Porcari

It was founded by Armando Porcari and Fabrizio Del Signore in Via della Barchetta, it moved to Via Monserrato to finally land in Via Ostiense. Yet, we believe that this is just the end of a chapter that could lead to new ventures!

Divario, founded in 2019 by the entrepreneur architect Filippo Tranquilli, closed instead in 2024. This was after hosting exhibitions of emerging and mid-career artists such as Robocoop, Michela Picchi, Marta Abbott, Lorenzo Catena, Max Renkel, Leonardo Magrelli, Giulio Bensasson and in the spring of 2024 the last segment of the exhibition by Francesca Cornacchini.

Let’s see, instead, what the new openings are.

Fresh from its opening (yesterday, September 20) is the Milan location of the Thaddaeus Ropac gallery. It has chosen the first floor of the historic Palazzo Belgioioso, just a few steps from the Teatro alla Scala, on via Monte Napoleone. The inaugural exhibition focuses on the dialogue between the works of Georg Baselitz and those of Lucio Fontana, who lived much of his life in the Lombard capital.

A new headquarters for IPERCUBO

Scheduled for October 2nd is the relocation of IPERCUBO with the inauguration of a group exhibition of Chinese, Brazilian, and American artists. They are Jose Victor de Castro Negreiros, Austin Hayman, Daniel Lannes, Luciano Maia, Zhao Wenliang, and Qi Zhang.

IPERCUBO has on this occasion promoted a collaboration with the gallery Orma. The latter, founded in Milan by Barbara Magliocco (curator) and Andrea Gallotti (artist), aims to be a bridge with Latin America. The title of the exhibition A changing and dissident universe is inspired by a poem by Amelia Rosselli. The group exhibition, bringing together 6 artists from different backgrounds, aims to align with the words of Édouard Glissant:

«diversity is no longer an obstacle, but the very condition of the relationship».

And of these words, in such complex times, we lovers of art at 360° hope to be the most steadfast guardians!

Caio Twombly opens a gallery in Rome?

Caio Agosto Tombly is the son of the artist Alessandro, himself a son of art – the father is the great artist Cy Twombly -. He founded the Amanita gallery in 2021 in the Big Apple (313 Bowery, New York). The space, in the ’70s, was the CBGB, a rock venue where Patti Smith and Blondie performed. In the venture, he is not alone; Garrett Goldsmith, Jacob Hyman, Tommaso Rositani Suckert are with him. Rumor has it he should open a new space right in Rome! In the meantime, the important donation to the GNAMC of Rome of as many as twelve works from the Cy Twombly Foundation is remembered.
