Art Basel Hong Kong 2025: everything you need to know

Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 is shaping up to be a event key in the Asian art scene, bringing together 240 galleries from 42 countries and territories.

This edition, scheduled from March 28 to 30, 2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with preview days on March 26 and 27, highlights the fair’s commitment to promoting global diversity and regional representation.

A Stage for Asia-Pacific Art

More than half of the participating galleries come from the Asia-Pacific region, highlighting the fundamental role of Art Basel as a platform for the vibrant local art scene. The fair is divided into several main sectors:

  • Galleries: the main sector dedicated to established and high-profile galleries;
  • Discoveries: focused on solo projects of emerging artists;
  • Insights: offers projects curated by artists from Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

This year, the Galleries sector will feature a rich selection of exhibitors from the Asia-Pacific, including emerging, medium-sized, and high-profile galleries from Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, and Australia.

Noteworthy solo presentations in the Galleries sector include Lawrie Shabibi (Dubai), Rossi & Rossi (Hong Kong), P420 (Bologna), and Ronchini Gallery (London). Additionally, Insights will showcase historical photography presentations from Asia, with contributions from Flowers Gallery (Hong Kong, London), Each Modern (Taipei), Takuro Someya Contemporary Art (Tokyo), Yutaka Kikutake Gallery (Tokyo), and The Drawing Room (Manila).

The Discoveries sector will offer an exciting selection of emerging galleries, with participants from various locations ranging from Beijing to Pristina.

News and Collaborations for Art Basel Hong Kong

The fair will welcome 23 new galleries in all sectors, with exhibitors from Cape Town, Berlin, and New York joining Galleries, while Insights will feature newcomers from Hong Kong, Noida, and Melbourne.

Eight galleries will enter the main sector of the fair from the Greater China region, as well as from India, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Austria, and the United Kingdom, highlighting Art Basel Hong Kong’s commitment to regional growth.

For the first time, the fair will collaborate with Para Site, an independent art institution in Hong Kong, to guide the curatorial direction of the public film program, reflecting Art Basel’s ongoing collaboration with the local art scene.

Furthermore, the inaugural edition of the MGM Discoveries Art Prize will award its first winner in 2025 with a cash prize to be shared between the artist and the gallery presenting them at the fair, along with an opportunity to exhibit in Macao.

Public Programs and Special Initiatives during Art Basel

Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 will present an extended public program, both on-site and off-site, including the Film and Conversations programs, as well as the Exchange Circle, accessible for free to the public at the HKCEC.

Furthermore, Art Basel will collaborate with the main cultural institutions M+ and Tai Kwun for a joint off-site programming.

The Film program, curated for the first time by Para Site, will present seven screenings and the works of 30 artists.

Art Basel will continue its collaboration with the cultural video channel Nowness Asia and Videotage, one of the main non-profit organizations in the region dedicated to video art.

Curated Sectors: Encounters and Kabinett

The Encounters sector, dedicated to large-scale projects, will present 18 exceptional installations that highlight the realms of digital art, design and architecture, textiles, nature, and human interactions.

More than half of the works are created specifically for the fair.

The sector will also include a site-specific installation for the third consecutive year: Lanternfly Ballet by Monster Chetwynd will be presented at Pacific Place, supported by Swire Properties, the Official Partner of Encounters off-site.

Kabinett, the sector that presents thematic exhibitions within the stands of the participating galleries, will include 36 projects – the highest number in the history of the fair – with a strong focus on historical and contemporary solo presentations from Asia, featuring works by 21 artists from Asia-Pacific and 15 from the rest of the world.
