Intense day of auctions between London for Modern Art and Contemporary Art.

The auction Modern has just opened: La Chemin de Saint-Mammès, le matin by Alfred Sisley is estimated between 400,000 – 600,000 GBP and has the highest estimate. Some lots remain unsold from the start because the bids do not reach the lowest estimate: this happens for a drawing by Carlo Carrà. The first two lots by Roberto Matta sell.

The contemporary auction goes much better with Elizabeth Peyton Jake and Heath (Jack and Ennis) sold for almost 28,000 GBP above the maximum estimate. Lady Day by Marina Adams (estimate 15,000 – 20,000 GBP) sold for more than triple the higher estimate: 63,500 GBP. If the first part of the auction records excellent results, the trend remains constant. The third lot is by Annie Morris Stack 7, Cobalt Turquoise which sells for more than 210,000 with a lower estimate: 100,000 – 150,000 GBP.
